“It’s not about infrastructure – it’s about people.”

Second meeting with the FAIRagro CommunityAdvisory Board (CAB) and the members of the Steering Committee on June 2 and 3, 2025 in Berlin

An important component of FAIRagro’s work is the Community Advisory Board (CAB). It assumes a valuable strategic and advisory role by evaluating the status and progress of FAIRagro and formulating recommendations for the design and further development of services and infrastructures on the way to a FAIR research data future in agrosystems research. The second meeting of the Steering Committee with the members of the CAB took place in Berlin on June 2 and 3. All nine members of the CAB took part, six traveled in person and three joined via video.

During the two days, valuable feedback was provided in several intensive and challenging sessions based on reports on the status and progress achieved by FAIRagro to date and, building on this, recommendations for action for the future were jointly developed.

The content discussed was essentially divided into the following topics

  • Visibility and Onboarding
  • User Needs and Perspectives
  • Infrastructure and Service Development
  • Community-Driven Cultural Change
  • (Inter)National Positioning and Collaboration
  • Strategic Orientation and Community Expansion
  • KPIs and Reporting

For each of these topics, a number of concrete recommendations were developed during the meeting, which are now being incorporated into the daily work of the individual Task Areas and working groups in order to make further progress towards open, collaborative and FAIR research data management (RDM) in the agricultural sciences – and beyond. And to initiate a cultural shift towards open scientific practices and sustainable data management.
