Monday Motivation
In order to get to know and understand the diverse activities within FAIRagro and the participating institutions better, to identify points of contact and synergy effects more easily and to give all interested parties an insight into the current status of the task areas, measures, working groups and our Use Cases, we have established our “FAIRagro Talk” series – every four weeks, always on the first Monday of the month at 3 pm, always online.
All members of the FAIRagro Plenary and anyone else who is interested in the work of FAIRagro are cordially invited to attend.

FAIRagro Talk: AI-based data extraction from literature for agroecosystem modelling
Simulation models, meta-analyses, and machine learning require standardized data, but in agricultural research, much valuable information from the published literature is available only in unstructured, non-machine-readable formats. Converting this information into analyzable datasets can promote data reuse, but it is labor-intensive and thus poses a persistent obstacle to research progress. In Use Case 2, a model is being developed to extract structured and consistent metadata from scientific publications. XinXin Chen (Use Case 2 / ZALF) reports on the basis of this approach and the current status of the Use Case 2 team.
Nanopublications: Small Package, Big FAIR Impact
Nanopublications are tiny, structured units of knowledge that can serve as universal building blocks for FAIR Digital Objects (FDOs) and FAIR practices in general. Tobias Kuhn (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam / Knowledge Pixels) did explain how nanopublications help researchers publish, link, and share structured knowledge across disciplines and communities.

At FAIRagro, we see our mission as an open initiative that supports a growing FAIR movement within the agricultural research community—and thus drives genuine cultural change. What this means and what activities and tools we are developing to make it a reality has been the topic of the latest FAIRagro Talk, presented by Anne Sennhenn (ATB Potsdam / TA2).
FAIRagro Talk: Agrischemas – Increasing findability of agrosystem related research datasets
Agrischemas is FAIRagros metadata framework based on Schema.org and Bioschemas. It aims at increasing interoperability and making domain-specific metadata available for reuse e.g. via the FAIRagro Search Hub. Core metadata include information about crops, soils, sensors and agricultural processes. Gabriel Schneider (TA 3 / ZB MED) gave insights in the framework and presented its current state. We have provided the videorecording and the charts of Gabriels presentation for you.
FAIRagro Talk: The FAIRagro Legal Training Series – what is in it for researchers?
“Don’t panic! A Survival Guide for Law and Ethics in Research” is the title of our Legal Training Series together with NFDI4Biodiversity and NFDI4Earth. On Feb 2nd Lea Sophie Singson (TA 2 / DSSC) and Sophie Boße (TA 2 / Training Coordinator) presented the series and told us everything there is to know. Now available: the recording and the respective charts.
FAIRagro Talk: “Streamlining data preparation for crop modelling research”
In our first FAIRagro Talk in 2026 Benjamin Leroy (TUM / FAIRagro TA1) did provide exciting insights in the work and the results of FAIRagro Use Case 6 “Automated data flows for crop simulation models”. The recording, the charts and the relevant links are now available.

On Dec 1st Ulrike Werban and Johannes Rabiger-Völlmer (Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research) told us everything about the new FAIRagro Use Case 14, which is part of a joint initiative by FAIRagro, NFDI4Objects, and NFDI4Earth.

Working better, easier, more beautifully… what stressed researcher wouldn’t want that?
In Task Area 4 of FAIRagro, the central infrastructure services for the consortium are being developed and provided – including the Scientific Workflow Infrastructure (SciWIn). In the November edition of FAIRagro Talks, Jens Krumsieck (Thünen Institute) explained what this is and what advantages it brings.
FAIRagro Talk: Farmland Data – Structures, Challenges and FAIR Principles
Lorenz Schmidt and Günter Filler from FAIRagro Participant Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin gave us an insight into the tasks and the state of affairs of Use Case 12: “Linking Agrosystem Data with Socio-Economic Information (LASI)”.
