Input data for the large-scale prediction of soil properties

A joint workshop of DBG and FAIRagro

On September 18 and 19, 2024, the 1st workshop of the working group “Soil Sensors and Pedometry” took place at the headquarters of the Julius Kühn Institute in Quedlinburg, organized by the German Soil Science Society (DBG) in cooperation with FAIRagro. The workshop was attended by representatives of geological services from state authorities (LBGR Brandenburg, LRGB Baden-Württemberg) as well as federal and research institutions (BGR, DWD, JKI, TI and ZALF).

left to right: Tobias Hohenbrink (DWD), Robert Müller (LBGR), Tom Brög (TI), Til Alpmann and Lars Konen (beide BGR), Michael Blaschek (LGRB), Elke Fries (BGR), Jannes Uhlott (JKI), Nikolai Svoboda (ZALF), Markus Möller and Younes Garosi (both JKI)

The topic was the establishment of standardized data accesses and descriptions in accordance with the FAIR principles of state and nationwide multi-dimensional input data for the spatial prediction of soil properties. The results of the workshop will lead to use cases that contain concrete implementations of the workshop objectives and will be presented at the upcoming DBG annual conference at Tuebingen (September 13-18, 2025).
