As part of FAIRagro Use Case 12 “Linking Agrosystem Data with Socio-Economic Information”, a new peer-reviewed publication has been produced and published in the German Journal of Agricultural Economics. The title: “Using Cubic Splines in Crop Insurance Models – A Replication Study”.
This study has two approaches: First, it replicates the work of Bucheli et al. (2022) to evaluate the reliability and generalizability of their results on the use of cubic spline methods in the design of weather index insurance in eastern Germany. The authors were able to replicate the original results, but also showed limitations in risk-mitigating capacities in the extended replication. On the other hand, the study was able to show how important the FAIR principles are for replication studies and how adherence to the FAIR principles can improve replicability in general.
