FAIRagro & DataPLANT Joint Workflow Hackathon: two productive days in Darmstadt

The joint hackathon organized by FAIRagro and DataPLANT on May 4 and 5 at KTBL in Darmstadt focused on better integrating the ARC ecosystem (ARC = Annotated Research Context) with SciWIn.

Working in several teams, participants tackled both general and highly specific problems, such as the automatic validation of CWL-based workflows: In the future, users should be able to see at a glance whether a workflow can be executed with a specific engine. To achieve this, existing capabilities within the ARC ecosystem will be utilized.

One group focused on converting the interim status of the Use Case 6 workflows, as presented at the FAIRagro Community Summit, into an ARC. The goal is to publish this ARC as an example on workflowhub.eu and, furthermore, to develop general guidelines for researchers.

Specific use cases involving workflows that utilize data from the so-called “Git Large File Storage” (Git LFS) were also discussed. Solutions for these will likewise be integrated into SciWIn in the future.

All participants returned home with a wealth of ideas and concrete tasks, and will now further develop the proposed solutions into tangible results in small groups.

The event, organized by FAIRagro Measure 4.4, was complemented by numerous opportunities for informal discussions during coffee breaks as well as an enjoyable dinner—two days that were not only productive, but also a fantastic event.
