Achieving a cultural shift towards FAIR and sustainable research data management (RDM) in agrosystems research is one of the main goals of FAIRagro. In addition to the development of tools and services that facilitate the management, publication and reuse of research data, this includes empowering researchers to use these tools and services themselves and to handle their research data in such a way that they can still be understood and used by themselves and others in the future.
To this end, we have developed and introduced the measures listed below. If you would like to find out more, please refer to the published concept, in which we discuss in detail the objectives, target groups, strategies and measures that we are pursuing in order to facilitate this cultural change.
Training events
We offer training in research data management – from introductory lectures to multi-day (hand-on) workshops on special focus topics.
We clarify fundamental questions such as:
- What is the research data lifecycle and does it exist for my data?
- What does FAIR actually stand for and what does metadata have to do with it? And what is metadata anyway?
- How do I organize my files so that I can find them again quickly – and so can my colleague?
- How do I license data correctly and why is this actually important?
- Do I actually have to comply with the GDPR when collecting data and if so, what?
We also always look at the special features of handling agricultural research data, give practical examples and introduce tools such as electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) and electronic field books that are particularly relevant for our community.
The target group of our training courses are young scientists and researchers in agricultural systems research. To reach them, we take our training courses to where the researchers are:
- At scientific conferences
- At universities
- At non-university research institutes
Would you like to take part in a free FDM training course for agricultural research data?
We regularly offer online training courses that are open to all interested parties – often together with partners such as de.Nbi or other NFDI consortia. You can find an overview of current FAIRagro training courses in our training calendar.
Do you work in agricultural science and could your working group benefit from FDM training?
We also offer customized training workshops on request! Please contact us by email with your request: training@fairagro.net
Training materials
- Do you want to learn something about handling agricultural research data, but there is no suitable training course on offer at the moment?
- Would you like to pass on your knowledge of RDM to agricultural researchers and are looking for teaching materials that you can use for this purpose?
- In our toolbox you will find a selection of teaching and self-learning materials that we recommend for our community.
- FAIRagro also creates and publishes its own training materials as Open Educational Resources that can be used for learning or teaching.
You can find an overview of all the training materials that FAIRagro has already published in our FAIRagro Community at Zenodo.
Education
FAIRagro wants to make a contribution to anchoring RDM in agricultural science education. To this end, we are already going into graduate schools and want to develop concepts and programmes such as a train-the-trainer concept and an education module “RDM in agrosystems research” to support those responsible for integrating agricultural RDM into the curricula of graduate schools
