Whether we’re collecting biodiversity and environmental data, delving into microbiology, working on bioimaging and bioimage analysis, or developing FAIR research data management for agricultural research—many of the challenges faced by researchers in the broader biodata community are very similar in nature. We saw this again this week at the Boosting Biodata Bootcamp in Aachen. But we also saw how far we’ve already come on the path toward FAIR research data management: the many small and large steps that participants have already taken, and their willingness to keep learning.

This shared perspective brought together the more than 100 members of the Biodata community who had gathered at RWTH Aachen University over the past three days. Inspiring presentations, in-depth workshops, and plenty of time for discussion provided an opportunity to learn from one another and explore both practical solutions and common challenges in the field of research data management.
We were happy to be there and found the event inspiring—not least because of the many wonderful colleagues. Thank you to everyone who shared their expertise, experiences, questions, and enthusiasm—especially our co-organizers NFDI4BIOIMAGE, NFDI4Microbiota, DataPLANT, and NFDI4Biodiversity. We’d love to come back.
